The Wayne County Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped serves thousands of qualifying residents of Wayne County who cannot read standard printed materials as a result of a permanent or temporary visual or physical disability. Who is Eligible?

Residents of Wayne County who are unable to read standard printed materials as a result of a permanent or temporary visual or physical disability qualify for service. This includes individuals who are unable to hold or turn pages of print books. Both individuals and organizations, such as schools, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers, may enroll in the Talking Book program.

That All May Read

The mission of the Wayne County Library for the Blind is to provide library service to the physically disabled population of Wayne County that is equal to the service provided to non-disabled residents.

The following materials can be obtained through the Library:

  • Talking Books, or books on tape
  • Popular, current magazines on tape
  • Descriptive Videos playable on a standard VCR
  • Descriptive DVDs playable on a standard DVD player
  • Copies of the King James or Jerusalem Bible on tape
  • Large Print books
  • Braille
